What is the most important work that you do as a business owner?

Bertha: Establish a clear vision and strategy for my company. Effectively communicate that vision and strategy to my team members, customers, and stakeholders. Making important decisions, setting goals and priorities, and creating a culture that supports the success of the company. Additionally, being adaptable and willing to pivot as necessary in response to changes in the market or other external factors is crucial for long-term success.

What is the biggest challenge you face as an entrepreneur and how do you overcome those moments?

Bertha: Entrepreneurship can be an exciting and rewarding journey, but it also comes with many challenges.

Starting a business involves a lot of uncertainty and risk, including financial risk, market risk, and personal risk. It can be challenging to overcome the fear of failure and the unknown. Struggling with managing finances, especially in the early stages of my business when you may not have much revenue. This can lead to cash flow issues and difficulty paying bills.

Staying focused and having ideas and opportunities coming at you, which can make it difficult to stay focused on your core business goals.

Developing a clear plan and vision for the business, including specific goals and strategies for achieving those goals. Managing finances carefully, including creating a budget and monitoring cash flow closely.

As the business grows, building a team to help me manage various aspects of the business. However, finding the right people and managing them effectively can be a challenge.

In what ways do you feel you’ve empowered women throughout your career?

Bertha: As a business owner, I have the power to empower women through their careers by creating a supporting and inclusive work environment that promotes gender equality and provides opportunities for women to grow and succeed. Provide equal opportunities, offer mentorship and sponsorship, help them develop new skills and build confidence and advance their careers. Encourage open communication for them to feel comfortable expressing their ideas and concerns.

Where do you see your business(es) in the next 5 years? What steps are you taking to get there?
