Youth Empowerment Organization to Honor Survivors of Sudden Tragedies

Love From Afar, Inc., a youth empowerment organization, will honor the survivors and loved ones of those who have endured a tragedy with its annual Angel of Love Brunch on March 12, 2023.

Founded by the Love From Afar Director, Cynthia Williams, the Angel of Love event began in 2015. Its purpose is to unite grieving loved ones and honor those who have survived life-threatening events by honoring them during The Challenger awards, which take place during the event. Williams came up with the idea to continue the legacy of her late son Christopher “Chris” Williams, who passed after a car accident in 2006. Since then, she has committed herself to raise awareness for distracted driving, and she is the only Black woman in the world to advocate for such.

Set at A Mane Event, this year’s theme is Shades of Blue. The event will be hosted by motivational speaker Kristen Kinder, with entertainment by Comedian Double D and musician Ryan Kilgore. Attorney Mawuli Davis will also be in attendance and speaking.

Honorees are to include the following:

  • Travis Barber
  • Mychel Dillard | Beloved Angel: Katara Renee Dillard
  • Domineq/Courtney Ivy | Beloved Angel: Terry Jackson, James Ivy, Dontrell Taylor
  • Terence Lester
  • Dominique Jennings | Beloved Angel: Kameron Marcus Carter

Williams, who is also a grief recovery specialist, understands the importance of having a community while overcoming grief. She says, “Understanding the difference between life and death is hard enough, but knowing that doesn’t always make it easier for someone to accept the death of a loved one.”
