Tell us about yourself. Where’d you grow up? Where do you live now? What was your childhood like?

Christina: I grew up in Brooklyn, NY. I currently live in Maryland. I was born two months premature at 3lbs 1 oz to teenage parents. I grew up in a tight-knit family in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn during the crack era in the late 1980s/ early 1990s. I witnessed men and women change into addicts and prostitutes. My once seemingly safe neighborhood became a scary place. Those experiences motivated me to make my education a top priority. I was very fortunate to have positive family members to motivate me to be successful in life from my parents, great-grandmother and godparents. They exposed me to various experiences that allowed me to see the brighter side of life. At ten years old I set goals for myself to graduate high school and then pursue higher education at a university.

Can you briefly walk us through your story — how you started and how you got to where you are today.

Christina: My husband, Edward, and I are high school sweethearts who met in Brooklyn, NY. We got engaged when Edward was a soldier in the U.S. Army while I was a senior at Temple University. We eloped two months later with only fifty cents and have now been married for twenty-two years. We both obtained our bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees while raising a family.

We published our first book, The Story of Christina and I last year. After publishing our memoir, we wanted to continue to entertain, educate and encourage others so we created a cross-platform media company, Sledge House Media.

Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

Christina: It has not been a smooth road throughout our twenty-two-year marriage. At the beginning of our marriage, we were a military family which required us to navigate and learn how-to balance military obligations and raise a family. Also, at one point in our marriage, we both were unemployed.

Those early struggles taught us resilience. When obstacles come our way now, we dust ourselves off and keep moving. When more than one obstacle comes in our path, we just tackle each one at a time. We realized early on that if we could survive both of us being unemployed at the same time, we could survive anything. We are driven to succeed. We rely on each other and our faith to get us through the rough patches.

Please tell us more about your business or organization. What do you want our readers to know about your brand, offerings, services, etc?

Christina: We are a husband and wife publishing and production team. We founded Sledge House Media in 2021 to share stories of the average person. We published our first book, The Story of Christina and I last year. After publishing our memoir, we knew it was important to share with others.

Collectively in 2021, we self-published several books together with many more on the way this year. Two of our books are bestsellers on Amazon. We tell diverse and compelling stories that highlight unique experiences, and backgrounds. Additionally, all of our books are 200 pages or less to reach readers that are limited on time.
