Celebrating International Black Women’s History Month With Tayuania Lee

April is International Black Women’s History Month. We’re highlighting women doing amazing things in business. We had the pleasure of interviewing Tayuania Lee, founder of Lee K’mor. Tayuania has an eye for fashion and is helping everyone make a statement one accessory at a time.

Tell us about yourself. Where’d you grow up? Where do you live now? What was your childhood like?

Tayuania: My name is Tayuania (pronounced like Tayonna) or Tay for short. I’m 25 years old and I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD, on the west side. Mulberry and popular grove to be exact. I attended Edmondson high school. I took on the cosmetology trade which I loved of course! I still currently live in Baltimore for now! Just no longer in the city, had to move to a better area. I do plan to eventually move out of state that’s the goal. My childhood was pretty okay in my eyes. My family didn’t have it all but they always made sure I had what I needed. My mom was a young and single mom with two kids trying to do what she could. I was very much into art, drawing, dance, and singing as a kid. I was all over the place. Anything I could do, I wanted to do. I did cheerleading, tried ballet, karate, basketball, volleyball. I literally did it all! That’s always been me. I’ve been awarded for art as well. That’s really my niche. I wasn’t a bad kid at all. I was pretty reserved for a while until I blossomed and began to open up.

Who do you feel is your target audience?

Tayuania: Honestly, my target audience is literally everyone. Might sound cliche but I really want to be able to incorporate a piece for every type of person. Men, women and children. Women who love big handbags or small, fitted clothing or more comfy clothing I really want to figure out a way to give everyone a piece of Lee K’mor!

What do you define as success?

Tayuania: To me, success is what you accomplish whether big or small. People always celebrate the ones who make the millions or get the most views or whatever. But honestly, for me it’s about creating goals, accomplishing them, and being happy about them. No matter how big or small finishing a project is always a big relief. You always feel good after. Success is what you complete. Some of us don’t care about money or fame so success isn’t always monetary. Your success could be inner peace after months of anxiety or buying a dream home. As long as it feels good to you, that’s really all that matters.

What was the inspiration behind your brand?

Tayuania: My inspiration for Lee K’mor would probably be luxury brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, etc, I’ve always been extremely intrigued by luxury brands. The experience they give, the luxury, and the hype behind it. I love it!
