What inspired you to pursue a career in media?
CDK: Throughout my childhood, I took acting and modeling classes just trying to find my niche. I ended up leaning more towards acting, auditioning for commercials, and doing stage plays. Believe it or not, the church gave me my first voice. Every Sunday I would preside the service on behalf of the youth. It wasn’t till the summer before college that I found my exact calling which is Hosting.
What was it like to receive Radio Personality of the Year and to be named the top HBCU Host in America by HBCU Buzz?
CDK: Becoming the #1 ranked HBCU host changed my life in many ways. It’s less about the title and more about the opportunity. I’ve used it to go on an HBCU Tour with one of the top urban clothing stores in the nation. Gained endorsement deals being on the forefront of everything HBCU. The nomination for Radio Personality of The Year hit different because I lost my job due to the pandemic so I only had a chance to be on air for 6 months. That’s a major accomplishment as a rookie
What do you enjoy most about the work that you do?
CDK: Traveling the world, and learning the differences in culture. Rather it is music or just the way we live. I also enjoy meeting new people and creating memories of a lifetime.
What are some of your most memorable interviews?
CDK: My favorite interview so far has probably been Toosii. It was the first time I saw him in person since he blew up and we met in Houston, Texas at Texas Southern University. It was just a full-circle moment to see that we both have been grinding to get to where we are today. To be meeting up in a whole different state, to be two young men from Raleigh, North Carolina was just a beautiful moment.
Who would you like to interview?
CDK: The Rock or Chris Brown just because I’m a huge wrestling fan and Chris Brown is my favorite since my childhood. He was the first secular artist I was allowed to listen to. I had his first album on a CD.
What are you currently working on?
CDK: Currently, I’m in the process of releasing my book before the holidays. “ Building a Brand by Using Your Gift “ is the first installment of the three-part series. A percentage of the book sales go towards my scholarship.
What is a super fun fact about yourself that many may not be aware of?
Before hosting I was actually a wrestler. I had dreams of going to the WWE as a kid but once I got to high school and realized I was done growing I gave that up.
What is a quote you live by?
CDK: “Live YOUR truth and SHOW YOUR BOTTOM”
Every day isn’t going to be full ups, sunshine, and glory! I know it feels like people pray to see your downfall, the moment that you understand that’s just life is the moment you’ll be ready to conquer any obstacle in your life. If you live every day being who you truly are, people will naturally gravitate towards your genuine spirit. Showing your bottom is equivalent to exposing your lows. can encourage those around you in similar situations to see it through. Chasing the light at the end of the tunnel can sometimes be difficult but if you put in the work you will get the results!
What can we be on the lookout for from you?
CDK: You can catch me hosting for the NBA’s G League team the Greensboro Swarm. Recently I was brought in as the new arena host for the 2021–2022 season. I always wanted to be an NBA star but this is probably the closest I’ll get to that.
How can we keep up to date with all you have going on?
