We Empower Magazine got an exclusive interview with Renée Beavers.
What went into your decision to begin to empower and assist other couples?
Renée Beavers: Gil and I have been a couple since the age of eighteen. We got married at twenty-one with a clear understanding that marriage was work, but we didn’t understand what the work was. Gil’s mom and dad divorced when he was seven years old, and my parents never married. Unlike reading, writing, and arithmetic, there were no classes available on how two individuals could become one in a marriage. So Gil and I studied the bible and others around us. We made a comment on day one that divorce was not an option for us. We knew early that not only did we want a healthy friendship, love life, and marriage, we wanted to empower others along the way.
What can singles and couples expect at the Rich Relationships Refuge?
Renée Beavers: A safe H.O.T (Honest Open, Transparent) environment with a like-minded community; new relationship tools, accountability, and support.
What keeps business & love intact and balanced within your relationship?
Renée Beavers: We don’t believe in balance; we believe in prioritizing. We honor God and our marriage as our first priority. Kids work, and others come second to our primary committed relationships. Gil and I are best friends, and we trust and respect each other and our differences. We give each other the freedom to be individuals, making us closer as partners and as a couple.
What do you enjoy most about the work that you do?
Renée Beavers: Our mission is to shorten the next generation’s learning curve and leave a legacy of healthy, rich relationships for all people, especially for people of color.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. What are some of your best self-care practices
Renée Beavers: Self-care is not a Catchphrase. We have to know and love ourselves to give ourselves away successfully.
Spent time reading, walking, writing, and doing things you enjoy alone.
Then when you spend time with others, you can share your true authentic self.
Getting to know, love, and understand yourself is the most extraordinary form of self-care.
What impact do you intend to make with the podcast?
Renée Beavers: Podcasting provides a passive way for people to grow and learn without feeling exposed to the opinions of others. It’s self-paced, and it is another form of self-care. Educating yourself in your own time in your own space is an investment in yourself.
How can we tune in?
Renée Beavers: Rich relationships with Gil&Renée is on every podcasting platform. Including Pandora, iHeartRadio, Alexa, and our website.
What do you want your legacy to look like?
Renée Beavers: Love that is genuine and unconditional.
Gil and I want to leave a legacy of durable and resilient marriages and build up couples who love and accept one another with kindness empathy.
Families that teach and model the importance of having a strong sense of personal identity. And that marriage can be a beautiful journey until death do us part.
What else can we be on the lookout for from you?
Renée Beavers: Rich Relationships Refuge will launch our ten-week two-module group session on May 24, 2021, at 8:00 PM CST.
