J Manifest: Creating Beats and Producing Hits
Jerard Manifest Wiggins better known as J Manifest has turned a fascination for drums into a passion by creating beats and producing hits. He was first introduced to engineering, live sound, and rap at the age of 13. J Manifest is one of the most sought after producers in the South, being a multi-talented mogul and a mentor to many. Most know him as a super producer, while others call him Good Brother.
One of his greatest credits came in 2014 for his work on Grammy Nominated Album “Mastermind” by Rick Ross. “Drug Dealers Dream”, gaining over 18 million views on YouTube, was a top fan favorite on the project, and writers from HipHopDX and even All Hip Hop shouted out his credentials when mentioning the album. J. Manifest has worked with Wiz Khalifa, Beanie Sigel, Moneybagg Yo, and Yung L.A. Previous work with acts Anthony Hamilton, Elhae (“Stars”), Curren$y, T-Pain, Young Dolph, Colonel Loud, and MMG artist Scrilla’s “Gods Will” EP are also some of his best work.
He currently runs his own clothing line Kickz N Snarez which has endorsed MP3 Waxx and K97.5’s DJ Wade Banner along with other well-known artists in his market. Kickz N Snares is the intersection of his favorite two attributes: classic shoes and epic beats. Through his clothing line, he is able to give aspiring artists an opportunity to understand what it’s like to be sponsored by a clothing brand, while also educating them on the techniques behind branding and supporting small businesses.
Tammy Reese: How has 2021 been treating you so far?
J Manifest: 2021 has started with lots of momentum. I’m excited about the artists that I showcased in my year-end rap-up who’s moving full steam at the moment.
Tammy Reese: I understand you are in the process of starting a music academy, how did the academy come about?
J Manifest: Legion of Muzik Academy will be the educational department of my studio. Most of my clients who book at my recording studio are usually full of questions ranging from how to record, produce, and general music business.
I felt that this would be a great addition to what we already have established at the studio.
Tammy Reese: What music artists are you listening to these days?
J Manifest: Right now I listen to lots of artists ranging from 90s hip hop (Mobb Deep, Jadakiss, Wu-Tang, etc.
I’m also listening to more current artists like Lil Baby, Scrilla, Young Boy, etc.
Tammy Reese: What was the last song you listened to at max volume?
J Manifest: The last song I listened to at max volume was “Lemon” by Conway the Machine.
Tammy Reese: How has the music industry made an impact on your life?
J Manifest: The Music Industry has made an impact on my life because it’s a business that I love and it also allows me to take care of my family.
Tammy Reese: Please tell me about some of your upcoming projects?
J Manifest: Top of 2021 be on the lookout for GunPlay and Anthony Hamilton album with production from yours truly. I will also be releasing an album myself in the 3rd quarter of this year.
Tammy Reese: What has the journey been like having your own clothing line?
J Manifest: Having my own clothing line has been an interesting journey. It was inspired by my lifestyle, music, and fashion. I wanted to be that producer that introduced merchandise to the culture as Jayz did with RocaWear and Puff did with Sean John.
It was a struggle trying to find people to model the merchandise because they just wouldn’t wear it how I visioned. It wasn’t until I started to model my own merchandise when the real traction started.
Tammy Reese: The Pandemic: Over it? Been over it? It is what it is?
J Manifest: I’m definitely over this pandemic, it’s mentally draining for everyone.
Tammy Reese: When was the last time you had a great laugh? What was the laugh about?
J Manifest: The last great laugh I had would probably be when I saw our last President leave his position with no class. (Funny and sad at the same time)
Tammy Reese: What do you want your legacy to look like?
J Manifest: It would be knowing that I lived my dream and created a system that provides the best music service to artists and producers.
Tammy Reese: What else can we be on the lookout for from you?
J Manifest: There are lots of seeds planted that I don’t want to prematurely speak on, but this year will be tremendous.
